Ms. Masni A/P Mat Dong: Recipients of the 2023 Merdeka Award Grant for International Attachment

Masni A/P Mat Dong, a lecturer at the Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) Pahang Branch, has been honored with the Merdeka Award in the category of Education and Community. This recognition stems from her exceptional work addressing the challenges faced by the indigenous Orang Asli community in Peninsular Malaysia.

Masni focuses on empowering Malaysia's Indigenous population by addressing challenges such as poverty, inadequate education, healthcare, and employment while respecting their cultural heritage. It is her passion to ensure sustainability through continuous engagement and promotion of sustainable livelihoods based on local resources and traditional knowledge.

Looking ahead, Masni will be furthering her research work at a renowned international university. She envisions the establishment of a specialized research and action hub focused on improving the lives of the Orang Asli. The center will bring together scholars, activists, and community leaders to develop holistic solutions, from policy recommendations to grassroots initiatives. Masni also aims to collaborate with global indigenous rights organizations to establish a support and advocacy network.

The Merdeka Award was established by PETRONAS, ExxonMobil, and Shell in 2007 to recognize and reward individuals and organizations whose work and achievements have contributed to Malaysia's growth and inspired greatness.
